This is a great opportunity to see behind the scenes at Lie-Nielsen Toolworks. Come tour our shop, test our full line of tools in our showroom, and meet the folks who work hard to provide you with the best, American-made, woodworking hand tools. Our staff will be present to answer questions and demonstrate our tools.

We've invited master woodworkers and other toolmakers from around the country to showcase their work and demonstrate their tools. Our list of guest demonstrators is posted below.

Guest Demonstrators

We are pleased to showcase an exceptional group of guest demonstrators at our Open House this year. This is a wonderful opportunity to interact with a diverse range of independent toolmakers, woodworking schools and organizations, and master woodworkers from around the USA.


The Connecticut Valley School of Woodworking is based on the idea of “learning by doing” and teaches woodworking to people of all skill levels. Classes are formatted to suit the needs of students (such as weekend, night, and week-long intensive). They also teach blacksmithing and kayak building. Located in Manchester, CT.

Glen-Drake Toolworks makes marking gauges, hammers, saws, and other fine woodworking hand tools. Made in California, USA.

M.S. Bickford makes 18th century reproduction British molding planes. Made in Connecticut, USA.

Tico Vogt, a cabinetmaker of 25 years, develops tools and products for the woodworking shop. The Super Chute 2.0, a high end shooting board, the Micro Sharp Honing Kit, and solid wood edge banding are his current products. Made in New York, USA.

A furniture-maker since age 12, Chuck Bender is the lead instructor at Acanthus Workshop. A woodworking mentor, he holds a reputation as one of the finest period furniture makers in the country.

Christian Becksvoort is a fine furniture maker, teacher, and contributing editor for Fine Woodworking Magazine. With over 40 years of experience, he designs and builds heirloom quality pieces in his shop in New Gloucester, Maine.


Chappell Universal Squares & Rulers were developed by timber framer, Steve Chappell, to meet the needs of the modern builder. Steve has been building timber frame structures for over 35 years. He teaches the art of timber framing through the Fox Maple School of Traditional Building in Maine and also runs a timber framing workshop in Costa Rica.

The Fox Maple School teaches traditional, natural, and sustain- able building practices through their timber framing workshops and Apprenticeship program. Located in Brownfield, Maine.

The Center for Furniture Craftsmanship teaches creative excel- lence in furniture making, turning, carving, and finishing for all skill levels. Courses are taught by an outstanding international fac- ulty of professional woodworkers and range in length from a week to a year. Located in Rockport, Maine.

Since 1972, The Apprenticeshop has been dedicated to inspiring personal growth through craftsmanship, community and tradi- tions of the sea. Located on the waterfront in Rockland Maine, the Apprenticeshop offers programing for youth and adults that ranges from 2 hours to 2 years. Students of all ages come here from around the world to learn traditional boat building skills, sailing and maritime arts. Today, as a non-profit organization, the Ap- prenticeshop is recognized as one of the finest and oldest traditional boat building schools in the country.
 
OTHER SUMMER ATTRACTIONS IN MAINE:

• While you’re in the area, consider taking one of our summer Weekend Workshops! Hone your skills and learn new woodworking techniques in one of our seven workshops from May through August. Visit our Weekend Workshops page for more information.

• NOTE: The annual North Atlantic Blues Festival in Rockland, Maine, will be held the same weekend as our Open House. This is a great alternative activity if your family is not as interested in woodworking as you are!
