A workbench is one of the most important tools in the shop.
A good bench needs to be flat, stable and heavy.
Our benches have a 2½" top with 5¼" thick ends and edges.
Made of Hard Maple, a native hardwood that is stable, heavy
and tough.
The trestle legs are 3" square. Our 8-foot bench weighs in
at 300 pounds, the 7-foot bench is 250 pounds.
Machined flat within a tolerance of plus or minus .010".
We recommend that the bench be reflattened as needed,
every year or two.
The shoulder vise is “quick release” — no tedious cranking
in and out.
Benches will be supplied with both steel and wood square
bench dogs as required.
Lie-Nielsen benches are finished with a 50/50 mixture of
boiled linseed oil and turpentine. This traditional finish seals
the wood, but does not make it slippery. The finish will need
to be renewed from time to time. |

All benches currently on the market are about 35" tall. For many people today, a taller bench is more comfortable. We can make your bench any height you like. |

The bench can be made with or without a tool tray. Traditional benches have a tool tray,
but some people don’t like them, because they collect clutter. Our unique tool tray design
features removable ½" plywood bottom panels for easy cleaning and through clamping. |

Benches are shipped by truck from our Woodshop in Waldoboro, Maine. Shipping charges vary, depending on your location. Please contact us for a quote. Trestle base is shipped knocked down — some assembly is required. Before your bench arrives, you should make arrangements to get the crate off the truck (Shipping weight is approximately 275-325 lbs.)
If you’d like an excuse to come to Maine, you can pick up your bench at our shop. |
