Woodworking has been integral to Ted’s homesteading life since the late 1970s. He and his wife built their post and beam house in the mid 1980s and Ted made most of their furniture. He also manages 24 acres of mixed hardwoods forest, harvesting and splitting enough firewood to heat his house (he has never owned an oil furnace). Ted worked in the Lie-Nielsen showroom from 2002 to 2008, and after a two-year break, joined the Hand Tool Event® staff in 2010.
Outside of woodworking, Ted is a competitive pistol and trap shooter and has his NRA Certification to teach basic pistol and rifle. He also shoots traditional archery and has his USA Archery level 2 certification to teach archery instructors. For eight weeks each summer, he teaches woodworking and manages shooting sports at Camp Runoia, a summer camp on Great Pond in Belgrade Lakes, Maine. He also enjoys human powered fitness sports including running, cycling, swimming, kayaking and hiking.
