Pat’s fascination with tools and wood began in his childhood, when he made a rocket fuselage of rolled and laminated balsa with bulkheads and a fitted hatch for insect astronauts. Since then, his work has been inspired by the traditions of Alan Peters, James Krenov, Lynn Dudenbostel, Sam Maloof, and many others.
Pat now designs and makes fine instruments, custom furniture, and other woodwork in his small shop at the west edge of Oregon's Willamette Valley. He especially enjoys working on objects that will be used often, up close, and support the way we share our lives – like musical instruments or tables.
Pat joined our Hand Tool Event® staff in 2011. Aside from woodworking, Pat plays a variety of stringed instruments, maintains a modest arboretum of favorite trees, referees youth soccer, and loves walking in the mountains or reading over good espresso.
