About the Venue

Founded in 1960 as the Philadelphia Maritime Museum, the Independence Seaport Museum is the region's primary repository of art, artifacts and archival materials documenting the diverse maritime history of the Greater Delaware Valley, and the history of the Port of Philadelphia and the other major urban ports of the Delaware River.

Guest Demonstrators:

Steve Voigt - Voigt Planes

Steve Voigt makes traditional double-iron planes, mostly by hand. His planes are loosely based on those found in the Seaton tool chest, ca. 1796.



William Duffield - Society of American Period Furniture Makers

Members of the local SAPFM chapter will demonstrate the use of hand tools to create period-accurate furniture reproductions and invite participants to try their hand at various joinery techniques.



Mark Showers - The Traditional Small Craft Association

The Traditional Small Craft Association, Inc., is a nonprofit educational organization working to preserve and continue the living traditions, skills, lore, and legends surrounding working and pleasure watercraft whose origins predate the marine gasoline engine. They encourage the design, construction, and use of these boats, and embrace the contemporary variants and adaptations of traditional designs.
