The “six-board chest” form has endured for more than four hundred years as a solid and useful piece. Its design can be tweaked to work with any aesthetic, and it is simple to make with just a few tools and cut nails.
In this class, students will learn how to turn dimensional lumber into a piece of furniture and will receive expert instruction in sawing, chiseling, handplaning, simple joinery, the proper use of cut nails, how to “clench” a nail, hinge installation and more. Over the course of the weekend students will build a small chest, and gain skills that will translate well into larger and more complicated projects.
This course is open to all woodworkers, but is being geared toward beginners or anyone looking to tackle their first project but not sure where to begin.
