The Norton Flattening Stone is a low cost, easy-to-use flattening method for all grits of waterstones. The coarse grit silicon carbide cuts quickly while the diagonal grooves provide channels for removing material during the flattening process. Engineered for flatness with a hard bond.
For best results, bring the waterstone to the Flattening Stone. To ensure the entire surface of the waterstone is flat and there are no hollows are rounded edges, pencil a grid pattern on the surface to be flattened. When all the grid lines are gone, the waterstone is ready for use. The surface of the waterstone may appear rough, but it will not affect sharpening.
With continued use, the Flattening Stone will lose its flatness. Use 220 grit sandpaper on a reliably flat surface, or a diamond sharpening stone, to dress the face of the Flattening Stone.
